Thursday, May 6:  Toby, Zayn, Jaden, and Matt

After the sixth graders finish their one-step equations worksheet this morning, I am letting them study for our big social studies test, which they have to take after lunch.  Once the social studies test is done, they're going to do a math assignment on angles...building upon our "commercial break" lesson from yesterday.  Since you won't be with us to do that assignment this afternoon, and since you don't need to study for my impossibly hard social studies assessment, I'd like you to do the angles assignment now.  Please read below for details...

First, please plug in some headphones and watch the math video at this link (click here).  Even if you feel like you know all of this already, please watch the video through to the end.  It's a good review to help you prepare for the Trans Math placement test next week.

Then, please ask Mrs. Girschle for a Math Lab worksheet.
It has two sides that are titled "Lesson 8-3 Practice B" and "Lesson 8-3 Practice C".  Both sides of this sheet are due tomorrow.  You may use the rest of class time to work.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Monday, April 27:  Homework!

Hi Friends.

Your math homework for tonight is to watch the video below and then answer the few questions at this link (click here).

Please don't be nervous by the video title ("Mon, Nov 5").  This is a video I recorded a previous school year, but that works great here too.  :)

The topic of this video is Scientific Notation.  This is a bit of a "commercial break" from what we have been studying, but super important.  Enjoy!

OOPS!  This post is titled "Feb. 2" even though today is February 3.  Blame it on my snow day brain...?  Sorry.

Green Team Math Friends,
The problem below and questions a, b, c, d, and e on the front side of the second sheet in your Lesson 18 packet
(the page says "S.76" in the bottom, right corner) are due tomorrow.  Be ready to share your work and answer, and discuss!  :)

Sixth Grade Camp Week

11/10/2014

This post is for Matthew, Toby, Zayn, and Jaden.
Good morning, boys!  I hope your week is going well.

While we are at Sixth Grade Camp, you are going to be completing a mini-unit on integers.  Our goals for this week are for you to develop both computational fluency with and a strong conceptual understanding of operation with positive and negative integers.  The sixth graders will be completing the same unit during afternoon "Math Lab" in the weeks ahead.

You may NOT use calculators for these lessons.  And, unless otherwise noted, all tasks should be completed independently.  You will be taking a quiz on Monday over the material covered in this mini-unit, so please take these tasks and your own learning seriously.

Mrs. Huyser (one of Mrs. Walker's parapros) will be supervising your work time this week, but her day does not start at Bursley until 9:25 so you will have to be patient.
I have left her copies of all handouts, as well as answer keys so that you get quick feedback on how you're doing.  Please ask her politely when you need something, show her that tasks are completed when asked, and demonstrate your best behavior, focus, and work ethic throughout the week.  I know you'll do a great job!

The links below will provide you with step-by-step directions for each class period this week.  Good luck!

Hi my math friends.  :)
This morning you have a "To Do List" for math.  Good luck!
  1. IF you're a sixth grader and IF you missed our Word Study Lesson #9 quiz (fac, fact, fect, fic, fict) on Friday, please use this link to take that quiz now.
  2. If you did not get your Decimal/Fraction Conversion Quiz and/or your Unit 2 Test completed with the sub on Friday, please see me for your assessment(s) and complete them now.
  3. Then, please use this link to take our pretest for Unit 3 (Module 2), which will begin in one week, after Sixth Grade Camp.  You may not use a calculator on this pretest, but you are welcome to use lined paper to show your work.  Remember to take this assessment seriously.  While you're not expected to know the answers yet (it's a pretest), this assessment will be used to make groups and we want you appropriately placed for the next unit.
  4. If/When you finish the Unit 3 (Module 2) pretest, the following are acceptable "What next?" options:  XtraMath sessions, study for Mr. Bosch's Cardiovascular System test next week using this link, prepare for your Social Studies quiz this afternoon, or put your computer away and read independently.
