Hi Friends. :)
If you missed class today because of an absence or because of ACT, you need to do the following before Social Studies on Wednesday...
ALSO (ACT Friends) -- You missed our Math Lab assignment the day before break (Tuesday 11/25) due to your hospital field trip. As I told you at the end of the day Tuesday, there is a post on my Math Lab/Vocab page with the full directions. The sheet referenced in that post is due tomorrow, Tuesday 12/2. Don't forget! Remember that for the Using Scale worksheets your answers (measurements in inches and miles) don't have to be exact. They should, however, be close.

ACT Friends,
Today in class we did a sheet on latitude and longitude. It has good directions and is due Wednesday. There are two different boxes with lists of cities and their latitude and longitude coordinates on this sheet. You are required to identify the number that corresponds to all of the cities in one of the two boxes. You can pick if you want to do the box with the shorter list or the longer one. Students who were in class today need to do both. :) These sheets will be available on my horseshoe table until 3:50 pm today, and then they will be available in the Extra Handouts: Social Studies basket. Thanks! This afternoon in class we took a pretest over Geography Landforms Vocabulary, to see how well we've done with studying so far and how much effort we need to put into studying moving forward. I have included that pretest slideshow below for students who were not in class. Remember, a student who is well prepared for our quiz on Friday (10/31) will be able to identify the 44 vocabulary terms by their picture and by their definition. You will be asked to provide the vocabulary term by seeing either the picture or the definition, as in the pretest slideshow below. I have an answer key for this pretest available in the classroom if you'd like to check how you did at any time. I'll try to get it posted on here soon, too. :) Please Note: I reserve the right to change whether the picture or definition is shown for the final assessment, so keep studying your flashcards! Below I have listed "clusters" of these geography terms which students frequently confuse. If I were you, I'd examine how the pictures and definitions for words in each cluster are similar and how they are different, so that you don't get them mixed up. Happy studying!
The slideshow linked here (click here!) should help you prepare for your geography landforms vocabulary quiz.
Your quiz will be on Friday, October 31 (Halloween). Happy Studying!
A few different students asked if I could post my whiteboard notes about the 5 Themes of Geography on my website...so here they are! :)
Remember that your 5 Themes packet is due on Friday. You'll have most of class time tomorrow (Thursday) to work on it, but you'll need decent notes from the PowerPoint (see post below) to get it done. Good Luck! Today in class (10/13/2014) we began our investigation of the 5 Themes of Geography using the PowerPoint slides show below. I'm sharing the slides for two reasons. First, ACT Friends...You'll want to look through these slides and familiarize yourself with this information. I'm not going to require you to take notes about these slides -- as we did in class while you were at ACT -- but you are responsible for this information, so you might want to consider note taking. We're going to do an activity in class on Wednesday that will require you to have some background knowledge. Second, other students...If you missed any details during our discussion of the 5 Themes of Geography today, you might want to look back at these slides and fill in the blanks in your notes sheet. Let me know if you have any questions! :) |
